From the Director of Athletics | Springfield College

Each year at roughly 450 NCAA Division III institutions, approximately 183,000 student-athletes put on a jersey, but at Springfield College, roughly 800 student-athletes put on THE jersey.

It’s a privilege to wear the Springfield College uniform and this is something that I stress to our student-athletes. During the last few months there have been several developments and events that have made me proud of those who previously donned the maroon and white, as well as excited for what the future holds for our current and future student-athletes.

Under the leadership of President Cooper’s vision for growing Springfield College through partnerships, our athletics program was able to lead the initiative when the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation agreed to partner with Springfield College to jointly design and build a one-of-a-kind intercollegiate and adaptive baseball park on the Springfield College campus this upcoming April. I am thrilled for how this facility will benefit our campus community, while also benefitting diverse populations; the facility will allow us to live our mission. Between this new facility and the unveiling of the Diane L. Potter ’57 Head Softball Coach at Springfield College Endowment last spring, it’s a historic time for our student-athletes wearing THE jersey when they step on the diamond(s).

We welcomed back alumni from our basketball (125-year celebration), track and field and cross country (unveiling of new indoor scoreboard), and swimming and diving (100-year celebration) programs, which has allowed us to celebrate the history and strong tradition of Springfield College athletics. Our staff will continue to look for unique opportunities to have more events to highlight our past successes, which helped pave the way for the current student-athletes.

Additionally, we are in the planning stages to have THE Springfield College jersey represented on international soil as our women’s basketball team will travel to Scotland and England for 10 days in late May, while our men’s soccer team is headed to Spain for a nine-day stretch in August. These trips are critical not only to spreading our brand overseas, but cultivating memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Your continued support of Springfield College athletics makes it possible for our student-athletes to have a first-class experience. As we strive to improve daily, it’s important for you to understand that your gifts provide us the resources to put our programs in the best possible position for success as we continue to educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others.
