Springfield College and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame presented the seventh annual Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Scholarship to Springfield College sport management students Bryce Alexander and Megan McGloin. The formal presentation was made during the 2019 Spalding Hoophall Classic at Blake Arena.

Both Alexander and McGloin were key contributors during the 2019 Spalding Hoophall Classic, the leading high school basketball tournament in the country showcasing the nation’s top recruits. As part of their responsibilities, Alexander and McGloin helped lead more than 75 student event staff workers and more than 30 student liaisons during the event. They created and conducted training sessions for volunteers of the event; collaborated with Springfield College Office of Conferences and Special Events, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and ESPN to coordinate schedules of events; and supervised all event operations during the five-day tournament.

Alexander, who is a native of Granby, Conn., served as one of the main student leaders for the Springfield College Department of Sport Management and Recreation at the 2019 Hoophall Classic, the third consecutive year he assisted at the event. He was one of only two Springfield College sophomore sport management majors to serve as a supervisor at the 2018 Hoophall Classic. A dean’s list student during his academic career at Springfield College, Alexander continues to serve as an assistant counselor for the Reach New Heights Camp for children with autism.

McGloin, who is a Windsor Locks, Conn. native, also served as one of the main student leaders for the Springfield College Department of Sport Management and Recreation at the 2019 Hoophall Classic, the third consecutive year she assisted at the event. As a sophomore, McGloin served as a supervisor during the 2018 Hoophall Classic. She previously served as a game operations intern for the Springfield Thunderbirds professional hockey team, and worked as a game operations intern for ESPN College Gameday.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Scholarship is presented annually to both a male and female junior majoring in the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Springfield College, who has maintained a successful grade point average and demonstrated a combination of service to Springfield College and the Hoophall Classic. The recipients are each awarded a $2,500 scholarship to be used during their senior year at Springfield College.
