The philosophy that recreation and leisure experiences are essential to the physical, emotional, psychological, and social development of all individuals is at the core of our therapeutic recreation management concentration. You’ll develop a variety of skills that can be implemented in clinical and non-clinical settings, including medical, surgical, and psychiatric hospitals; senior centers; child-life programs; mental health agencies; shelters; vocational training centers; correctional facilities; and long-term care and nursing home settings.

By completing this program, you’ll have met all educational requirements to be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). For individuals interested in pursuing work as a child-life specialist, working in health care settings focused on the emotional and developmental needs of children, you can ask your advisor about the required course of study and the certification opportunity through the Association for Care of Children in Hospitals (ACCH).
