Social Work - Teaching & Research

Primary Responsibilities:

The fellow will have primary responsibility for assisting with classroom instruction and research for two faculty members, Dr. Efi Kokaliari and Dr. Ann Roy. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Data base search for relevant articles for faculty research
  • Transcribing audio recordings of qualitative interviews
  • Creating instructional materials for research course
  • Assisting faculty with IRB process and Ethics training
  • Assisting faculty with students’ review of  the literature


The fellow will assist Professor Kokaliari and Professor Roy with a study entitled: Internalized stigma in the mother tongue: Experiences and identity shifts of bilingual LGBTQ Puerto Ricans. The fellow will assist in research tasks associated with qualitative research including transcribing interviews, and importing data into software that analyzes qualitative data. The fellow must have a strong knowledge of basic research methodology. The fellow will assist in conducting database searches of peer reviewed empirically-based and theoretical articles. The fellow will assist Dr. Kokaliari in MSSW622- Research 2 (qualitative) and may be asked to assist Dr. Roy in MSSW621-Research 1 (quantitative). The fellow will hold regular office hours and meet with graduate students regarding the IRB process and online ethics training module.

Secondary Responsibilities:  

Fellow will assist faculty members with administrative duties. These responsibilities will not exceed 35% of fellow’s time. Duties can include:

  • Administrative responsibilities associated with research, such as data entry
  • Administrative responsibilities associated with classroom instruction
  • Other office management tasks, such as copying, filing, etc.


Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of a graduate research course
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with the research team, study participants, and students
  • Knowledge of basic research methodology, qualitative and quantitative
  • Research experience preferred

Position Requirements:

  • Enrolled as full-time graduate student in the Springfield College School of Social Work in good standing
  • Knowledge of SPSS, Office, video conference (e.g. skype, facetime)

Hours per week:                    Part-time fellow at 10 hours per week           

Tuition Waiver:                     12 SH, 6 per semester

Annual Stipend:                    $2,000.00
