How has having a Springfield College degree impacted you professionally?
The SC name is well known, respected and holds a great reputation. A Springfield College education can open many doors for you. I believe that I landed my first teaching job interview because of my Springfield College degree. The interview committee knew that I would be prepared for the position because of the education and career readiness skills I received at SC. Having a Springfield College degree also means being a part of a community that provides you with continued support, education and networks. I have utilized all of these aspects professionally.
Who influenced you when you were a student at Springfield College and explain the role they played in your life?
Ted France - Ted was my first impression of Springfield College when I attended an open house. He had such a passion and enthusiasm for the college and the profession that I knew SC was where I was meant to be. As a student, Ted continued to influence me. He taught me that physical education is not only about the body but also about the spirit and mind. Ted taught me about character building and most importantly relationship building with your students. What I learned from Ted helps build the foundation for my physical education classes each school year.
Ruth Arnold - What is unique about SC is that you have the opportunity to form relationships with your professors and truly get to know them. Dr. Arnold was like my Aunt away from home when I attended SC. I completed my work study with her for over three years. During this time, she showed me the dedication a teacher has to their students. She tried to impact every student she had in class and get to know each and everyone. She showed me that hard work, thinking outside the box, and caring about what you do can really make a difference not only in your teaching but in your life.
Classmates - My success at Springfield College and in my profession was also influenced by my many classmates at SC. I met individuals both in my major and out of who challenged me, who influenced me, who pushed me and who helped guide me out of my comfort zone. I often turn to many of these individuals still for ideas, thoughts and reassurance.
