Class of 1957
Greetings everyone! This letter is an update to the letter you received in November giving preliminary plans for our 60th Reunion. The “initial” committee of Bob Hoffman, Norma Bray Semle, Jo-Anne Ayre Alissi, and Diane “Pottsie” Potter met with Tamie during Fall Homecoming to begin the planning process. Since that time I’m sure most of you have been contacted either by a Christmas card, an email, or a phone call from one of the following classmates who volunteered to make personal contact. We send a huge thank you to Norma Weaver Winglass, Barbara Jacobs Jordan, Doris Pollock Costello, Anita Jones Holmquist, Marcia Miller Fenning, Tiiu Parli Harunk, Jack Karl, Jack Welch, Jo-Anne Ayre Alissi, and Warren Lutes.
Here are some highlights as planned to date, and important information for our reunion in June:
- Dates: June 9, 10, and 11, 2017 (Friday-Sunday)
- Hotel: the Hilton Garden Inn (next to the Basketball Hall of Fame). The college has booked a block of rooms for our class. Call the hotel (413-886-8000), mention Springfield College Reunion 2017-Class of ’57 to reserve a room by May 4, 2017 to receive the discounted rate of $159.00/per night.
- There will be a scheduled shuttle service from the hotel to the college. The shuttle schedule will be posted at the Hilton Garden Hotel check-in desk.
- Saturday night dinner: at the President's home on campus with reception on patio on same level.
- Banquet: will be buffet style, SC students will provide serving assistance, as needed.
- Pre-Response Form: PLEASE complete and return in envelope provided. (This is not your formal registration it is just to give us an idea of numbers for planning purposes.)
As this is our 60th reunion, we hope to make a special 60th anniversary gift to the college. If you have already made your gift for this year, thank you! If you have not, please consider doing so. Your gift in any amount is appreciated and needed. Our gifts help to provide financial assistance to today's students. You will find a return envelope enclosed with a slip describing March 1 as "Giving Day" at Springfield College. We hope you will participate in Giving Day as much as you are able.
In addition to Alumni planned events, we want to have a sequence of special events over the reunion weekend. Your suggestions are welcomed. If you have questions or suggestions, give Pottsie a call (603-707-1633), or send an e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org . We certainly are hopeful that all receiving this letter will join us at this our 60th reunion. Watch for updates as winter turns to spring!
With best wishes,
Class of 1957 Officers - Reunion Committee: Diane Potter - President; Bob Hoffman – Vice President, Fund Raising; Warren Lutes - Vice President, Communications; Reunion Committee: Norma Bray Semle, Jo-Anne Ayre Alissi
This is a two part letter to report how we have done as a class in support of Springfield College and a first announcement of our plans for our 60th reunion (yes, 60th!) in June 2017.
Our class contributed $28,420 in the fiscal year 2015/2016 to support our college, including the designations you might have identified and the provision of scholarship assistance. 57 of us participated which is 40% of current classmates. On another occasion I will expand on that. For now, I will request your generous gifts for the current fiscal year, as you are able. See the enclosures.
See below for Pottsie's letter!
Fall greetings from your President, “Pottsie.” I am including, in Bob’s letter to you, this message reminding you of our 60th Reunion this coming June. Yes, 2017 marks 60 years since we left the hallowed halls of Springfield College to make our individual ways in the world. The Alumni Office is now handling some of the things we used to have to do for our own reunion. If not received already, you will be receiving a Pre-Registration Questionnaire and personal data update sheet from Alumni. Please NOTE it will come in an envelope from Office of Development. Our Office of Alumni Relations and Development are under the same umbrella, so please be sure to open it. It will ask you to update, if necessary, your contact information. The reverse side is a questionnaire requesting information that we typically asked for, and, in addition, information pertinent to the Alumni Office. We will be able to access this information to aid our reunion planning so please fill it out and return it.
I am very happy to let you know that the site for our banquet will be the President’s residence! The 60th reunion class now traditionally has its banquet there as does the 55th class. Thus the class of 1962 will also be at the residence, although in a different area. It is a big house! In addition, we already have a block of rooms reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn next to the Basketball Hall of Fame as we did for our 55th.
There has been a change in our Reunion planning committee as Jack Karl, our VP for Reunion, recently resigned. I have asked Norma Bray Semle, and Bob Hoffman to join Co-Chair, JoAnne Alissi, and myself at the Reunion Training session to be held on Saturday morning of the upcoming Homecoming weekend at the College. This group will act as an initial planning committee. Norma Winglass will also attend the meeting as an observer. We will be seeking assistance from other classmates willing to help with our 60th! The questionnaire has a place to check if you would be willing to help with Reunion planning. Please check this box if you would be willing to help. You can also contact me directly at email@example.com or via my cell: 603-707-1633.
As always, I look forward to returning to campus, especially at Reunion time, and hope to see you there June 8-11, 2017!
With best wishes,
Diane “Pottsie” Potter
