Class of 1982
We’re getting closer and closer to our 35th Reunion, June 8-11, 2017. If you are a Facebook user, check out our group page “Springfield College Class of 1982” or visit our Class of 1982 webpage available through the Springfield College Alumni Site. Classmates are already committing to attending. Some information I know so far.
Overnight accommodations: Alumni Hall on Campus – Very convenient and inexpensive – one stop for the whole weekend – no driving necessary as most events are on Campus. Reservations are made via the official Reunion registration brochure. Remember it is a dorm and that means twin beds, no AC, (you all remember) but some of us stay there every year and have a great time. If you want to stay off campus, our class has a block of rooms available at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown (413)886-8000 for $159 a night. This shares the same parking lot as the Basketball Hall of Fame and there is no fee to park. Please make reservations by May 5th.
Did I mention Class Dues? – As usual our class is treasury empty. The Reunion Committee is asking everyone to send in $19.82 for class dues. This will help build the treasury up to cover some of the incidental expenses. Dues are just for our class and not a donation to the College. Another way we can beef it up is with some silent auction items. If you have anything to donate valued over $50 it would be great, Sports Collectibles, Sporting event tickets, Vacation homes, (are you willing to auction a free week or weekend stay) Think of what you could donate and let me or the Alumni Office know by May 15, 2017. The proceeds come back to the Class of ’82 treasury.
35th Reunion Gift – Thank you to everyone who has donated or pledged so far. March
Giving Day was a big success and we are well on the way to our goal of $60,000 and
135 donors. If you haven’t made a gift yet please consider doing so. Any gift is appreciated. http://springfield.edu/giving-to-springfield-college
Get there and get your friends there- Our Reunion Committee has been meeting regularly
but I’m asking all of you to help make our Reunion a success. First by making plans to join us in June. Second contact as many of your classmates as possible and convince them to join us. You won’t be disappointed. Watch for more information on our Class of ‘82 webpage through the Alumni Office site. Join our Springfield College Class of 82 Facebook group for more frequent updates https://www.facebook.com/groups/139519732835812/ Contact me if you’d like to help or have ideas. Maybe you’d like to invite a former faculty member to attend our dinner.
I hope to see you all in June.
President, SC Class of ‘82
I can’t believe that almost five years have passed since many of us were together at our 30th Reunion. Harder to believe is that 38 years ago most of us arrived on campus to begin our freshman year at Springfield College.
Plans are now underway for our 35th College Reunion. Please mark your calendar and set aside June 8–11, 2017 to join your classmates and me on campus. If you went to our 30th Reunion, I’m sure you’ll agree that we had a great time.
Several of us have been going back to The SC Reunion every year for quite a while to get together, play in the golf tournament and catch up with friends from other classes. Our goal is to get as many people back for our 35th as possible. It doesn’t matter if you come to all of the events or just one. We hope that you will be able to join us. While many of us will be staying on campus in Alumni, we have a block of rooms booked at the Hilton Garden Inn, next to the Basketball Hall of Fame, under Springfield College Class of 82 for $159 a night.
If you haven’t been back on Alden Street in a while, you may be surprised to see how much the campus has changed. The latest improvements include a beautifully rebuilt MacLean Terrace behind Alumni Hall which includes a gas fire pit…yes, a fire pit, and the current transformation of Babson Library into a modern Learning Commons. The campus is alive and vibrant under the leadership of current President Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper.
As part of our Reunion I’d like to ask you to consider joining me in celebrating this special milestone with a gift that makes a difference! Each year you are asked to make a gift to Springfield College and for our Reunion we have set two goals. First to raise a total class gift of $60,000. Second to attain a class participation rate of 135 donors.
In response to our goals one of our classmates, has offered a challenge to everyone in the Class of 1982. Every dollar donated from now until the end of January will be matched, up to a maximum of $10,000. If every member of our class makes a stretch gift between now and June, we will reach our goal of $60,000. Additionally for every $25,000 raised we will have our class name engraved on a paver on the new MacLean Terrace. Please try to consider a gift of $100 or more. Consider a gift to Springfield College for your year end tax planning.
Our Reunion Committee is beginning to meet but I’m asking all of you to help make
our Reunion a success. First by making plans to join us in June. Second by contacting as many of your classmates as possible and convince them to join us. You won’t be disappointed. Watch for our Class of ’82 webpage through the Alumni Office site for more information.
