Class of 1987

Soon the Holidays will be upon us…then a beautiful spring…then…its Class Reunion time!

Class of 87

March 2017

Dear Class of ’87,

Happy Spring!  As I say this, it is with caution and fingers crossed that we are done with the snow for the season!  The days are getting longer and June is fast approaching, as is the Class of 1987 30th Reunion!  It is going to be a great weekend, June 8-11, 2017, as our classmates come back together on campus to share special moments with family, friends, roommates and all those who were a part of such a special time in our lives.

The Class responses are coming in so let’s keep it moving in the right direction.  If you cannot make it onto campus for the whole weekend, remember-there are events happening each day, so you’re sure to have a great time with friends.

Here are a few things to note:

OUR GOAL IS IN SIGHT:  This month we have nearly doubled our participation in gift giving with 43 classmates participating and we are more than half way to our goal!  No amount is too small-we’re SO close to getting our brick on Maclean Terrace!  If you’ve already made a contribution, THANK YOU!  If you haven’t, there is still plenty of time.

RESPOND:  Let us know that you are coming so we can plan accordingly.  Look for the brochure the second week of April, but you’ll be able to register online as well.  On Friday join the fun at the Under the Boardwalk…Down by the Sea Extravaganza. We are putting together a great Class Dinner filled with fun and surprises for Saturday Night…along with other phenomenal activities such as Reunion Late Night- live music and cash bar in Cheney Hall, the Humanics in Action Luncheon on Saturday –sharing the Humanics Philosophy with Build-a-Bear, Letters to the Troops, and Replenishing the Soup Kitchen, and “Silent Auction” bidding on items to benefit the Reunion Classes of Springfield College.

WHERE TO STAY:  There is a block of rooms reserved at the Marriott Springfield (413-781-7111).  A special group rate of $129.00/night is available for registrations received by May 18, 2017.  Be sure to mention the Springfield College Reunion when making your reservations.  You can also bunk in Alumni Hall-on campus reservation information will be included in the registration brochure coming in April.

CLASS DUES:  Our class dues are $30.87 and solely support our class and class reunion.  Dues are separate from the class gift and are not tax deductible.  Please make a separate check payable to Springfield College and include “87 Class Dues” in the notes section.

BE HERE:  Just come.  For the entire weekend.  For the afternoon.  Enjoy the campus.  Relive the camaraderie.  Reconnect and make new memories.  We want to see you here-bring the family,
bring an old roommate, bring a friend.  It doesn’t matter if it’s just you or bring the whole crew -just get here!

This is the final official correspondence from the committee-but you can still get in touch via Facebook.  We are all looking forward to having the best reunion yet…can’t wait to see you in June!

January 2017

Dear Class of ’87,

Happy New Year – I hope you all were able to make it through the Holidays with family and friends, enjoying company, resting and recharging.  Now that the Holidays are behind us, we can look forward to some winter activities, the blooming of spring, and …. The Class of 1987 30th Class Reunion!  It is going to be wonderful to reconnect with old friends and roommates, reminisce and make new memories with those who were and are such a special part of our lives.

If you haven’t been on campus in a while, NOW is the time to come back.  This is an exciting time for Springfield College.  Many changes have taken place on campus, even since our
last reunion.  You will be proud to see all that President Mary-Beth Cooper is doing for our
Alma Mater!

By now we have received class responses…and our class has recorded the most responses to date!  We are really counting on YOU to make THIS the Best Reunion yet!

As a friendly reminder, here is some key information to make note of:

SAVE THE DATE:  Reunion Weekend is June 8-11, 2017.  These are 3 days of activities for you and your family including our class dinner, Humanics in Action lunch, silent auction, and Boardwalk Extravaganza.  There will be many more activities-you can attend all of them or just the ones you want. Registration material detailing all events will be sent in April 2017.

LET US KNOW YOU’RE COMING:  If you haven’t done so already, please fill out and return the pre-response form.  This is not a formal registration, but it will give us an idea of how many of us will be attending and how to plan. For your convenience a second copy of the form is included here. If you have not yet done so, please return it in the enclosed reply envelope.

CONSIDER A GIFT:  ***As of right now-with only 24 of our classmates committed to making a gift-we are more than halfway to our $30K Class Goal!   Imagine what we can raise if we reach our goal of 100 classmates donating…We can do this!   Once again, it’s a very personal decision, but any amount will help us reach our Class Goal.  No amount is too small.  If you have already made your contribution, thank you. You may want to consider making your gift on March 1. . . the “Day of Giving”!

SUPPORT OUR CLASS:  Please remember to send in your class dues in the amount of $30.87 to
help support our reunion.  Every little bit helps-we want to create a first class reunion experience and we can’t do it without your help. This is separate from a class gift and it is not tax deductible. It must be a separate check. Please make checks payable to Springfield College and include “ ’87 Class Dues ” in the notes section.

PLACES TO STAY:  There is a block of rooms reserved at the Marriott Springfield
(413-781-7111).  A special group rate of $129.00 per night is available for registrations received by May 18, 2017. Be sure to mention the Springfield College Reunion when making your reservations.  You can also bunk in Alumni Hall-on campus reservation information is included in the registration brochure, which you will receive in April.

REACH OUT:  Whether it is for one event or the entire weekend, we want to see you! Contact all your old teammates, roommates and classmates to bring everyone home to reconnect for a great experience back on campus.

REUNION 2017:  Dream it.  Live it.  Make it happen.

Don’t forget to check out our “Class of 1987” Facebook page!  We’re looking forward to
seeing you!

November 2016

Dear Class of ’87,

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying this gorgeous autumn weather.  Soon the Holidays will be upon us…then a beautiful spring…then…its Class Reunion time!  Dare I say that it has been 30 years since we were cruising around campus wondering what would be next for us? Though we are still 8 months away, June 2017 will be here before you know it.  We-Barb, Margaret, Joanna, Suzette, Bruce, Michelle, and I are going to keep you updated with all the latest info you will need to make it back to campus and celebrate our Class of 1987!

We met on campus during Homecoming weekend and we’ve already had our first conference call to get all the details together.  First of all, if you haven’t been back to campus, you must check it out. The library is currently under construction, and the grounds look spectacular, not to mention the state of the art sports complex.  You will be getting reminder postcards, emails and letters with more information, but here are a few things we are asking for to get started.

#1.   Come Back!  The entire weekend is packed with events and activities, and you don’t have to be at all of them.  The highlight will be our Class Dinner on Saturday night; an event to connect and reconnect with old friends and new.  It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been back for a reunion yet-just come for the day or even a few hours to revisit where we spent some of the most influential years of our lives.

#2.   Make Contact.  If each one of us reaches out to 5 classmates-friends you are in touch with or those you wonder what they’ve been up to and want to see again, we are going to have one heck of a party! I know, for us, whenever we are back on campus-it’s as if we haven’t skipped a beat.  Add work, business, volunteering, teaching, coaching-whatever it is that you do-and now you’ve increased your networking capabilities.  Hey-ya never know what the weekend may bring.  All you have to do is BE THERE.

#3.  Give a Gift.  All of us on the committee have made the commitment to give a Class Gift.  Our class gift is made up of all of our individual gifts to the college during this reunion year. Regardless of amount or designation of your gift or gifts, they all count toward our collective “class gift”. It is a very personal decision, but let me tell you this:  it is up to you to decide what is appropriate for you to give.  No amount is too small; if you give $5 or $500, it will be put toward reaching our class goal of $30,000.  Along with this monetary goal, we would also like to have our class participation rate increase.  Our best ever as the Class of 1987 is 13% participation.  I would like to challenge us and set our goal this year for 25%.  That means we need close to 100 classmates to donate.  We can do this!  Please note that class dues, which are $30.87, will help cover the costs of all our class events, but they are not part of the Class Gift.

There is one more thing I would like to mention while were talking about the Class Gift…MacLean Terrace (behind Alumni Hall) is being renovated and is absolutely gorgeous.  The platform and steps leading to the pergolas, seating area and fire pit are made of 3x3ft mason blocks.  Any class who raises $25,000 will have a block engraved with our class on it-Class of 1987.  I want US to claim the first block…not that I am competitive at all…I know we can do it!

#4.  Competitions:  In addition to our Mason Block Challenge, there will be a few other competitions that weekend.  Trophies will be given out to classes in the following categories: Most Spirit, Highest % of Returning Alumni, Most Dollars Raised, and Highest % of Donors.  It is my goal to top all of these charts and grab ‘87 a few trophies…so get that Beanie on and let’s get moving!

We are reserving a block of rooms at the Marriott Springfield and of course in Alumni Hall…for those of you who want to relive that residence hall experience!  To make your Marriot reservations call 413-781-7111 by May 18, 2017 with your major credit card and ask for the Springfield College-Reunion 2017 block.  You will be able to register for rooms in Alumni in your Reunion Registration brochure, which you will get in April.

Whether you come home for the entire weekend or just for lunch, we want to see you.  We want to get as many of us back on campus as we can, just because it’s not the same without you!
