Reunion 2021 June 10-13

Members of the class of 1970

March 2020

We hope this message finds you well during this unusual time of social distancing, work from home, shelter in place, and quarantine. Even as you are adjusting to this new normal, we suspect, too, that you are doing all that you can to stay connected with your communities. Such is the Springfield College way.

As the College continues to adjust plans based on prevailing direction of this pandemic, the President's Leadership Team (PLT) has made the difficult but prudent decision to postpone Reunion 2020. This, of course, comes at a time when the President has also communicated that Commencement will be postponed. Classes celebrating Reunion in 2020 are invited to join those classes celebrating Reunion in 2021 for what will be a tremendous celebration that is scheduled for June 10-13, 2021.

The Alumni Council and your respective Reunion Committees have been apprised of this decision. Your Reunion Committees and the Alumni Relations staff will continue to communicate with you and share information regarding the GRAND Reunion in 2021 as plans unfold. We look forward to welcoming you HOME between June 10 and 13, 2021 if not before. In the meantime please stay well and stay safe .

February 2020

Greetings to the class of 1970

I hope everyone is surviving the winter months and making plans to return to campus for our 50th Class Reunion, June 11-13, 2020.  Whether you can come for the whole weekend or just part of it, we want to see you there. Here are a few of the activities planned for the weekend.

  • Friday Evening: Visit East Campus and share station-style dining, music, and dancing with classmates.
  • Saturday Morning: Join us for a Golden Triangle Breakfast with classmates and Reunion Committee member Fred Bartlett, who will serve as emcee.
  • Saturday Midday: Join the fun at the Wine and Food Truck Festival.
  • Saturday Afternoon:  We will remember deceased classmates with a Class Memorial Service in the Marsh Memorial Chapel.
  • Saturday Evening:  Class reception – this will be our time to visit with classmates, share stories, and have our class photo taken for the archives. We have asked Charlie Redmond to share with us his memories of the Class of 1970. New for Reunion 2020 – Dr. Cooper, President of SC, is graciously inviting all returners to register for dinner at her home.   Lobster and steak are on the menu.
  • Sunday Morning: The weekend will conclude with a Farewell Brunch, compliments of the Alumni Association.
  • Watch your April mail for your registration brochure.

Giving Day is March 4th - Financial Support for Our Alma Mater

Thank you to those classmates who have made their annual donations to the Springfield College Fund. We encourage you to give whatever you can afford. Our goal is to increase the number of classmates giving to the College. To give visit springfield.edu/gift or call/email Bonnie Cox, G’88, director planned giving/major gifts officer, at 413-748-3736 or bcox@springfield.edu.

You also can make your gift on Giving Day, March 4, by visiting springfield.edu/givingday between 5 a.m. and midnight (EDT), or by calling 413-748-3124 or (800) 622-6072 between 7 a.m. and midnight (EDT). You may designate your gift to any of the four following funds: the Springfield College Fund, Friends of Springfield College Athletics, Friends of East Campus, or the Friends in Humanics Scholarship. If you choose to designate your Giving Day to a different area, your donation will count towards our class’s annual giving goal but will not count in our Giving Day totals.

Another easy way to support our alma mater is by naming Springfield College as a beneficiary in your estate plans. Planned gifts are simple, powerful, and can be a tax-smart way of making your gift. If you have questions or would like to learn more about planned giving, contact Bonnie Cox, G’88, at 413-748-3736 or bcox@springfield.edu.

Class of 1970 - 50th Reunion

June 11-14, 2020

Oh my, we are officially those old people we saw walking across campus so many years ago.

Let the fun begin!

We have officially started Reunion planning. For those of you we have the pleasure of seeing often or every 5 years we certainly look forward to seeing you this year.  For those of you who have been holding off and waiting for a good time to come back – Now’s the time!  Call an old friend, reconnect, and make a plan to visit the campus once again. If there is someone you have lost contact with and would like to find, please let us know.  There is a chance we have their information and would be happy to share (with permission,
of course). We look forward to seeing YOU!!!  Soooooo come back for an hour or the entire weekend, JUST COME BACK FOR OUR 50TH REUNION!!!!!

By now you should have received your first Alumni Reunion Pre-response form.  If you have made a decision about returning to campus, please send the form back to the Alumni Office. It helps with our planning.  If you have misplaced the form you can let the Alumni Office staff know your intentions by mail or email alumni@springfield.edu

  • Class Dues - $20.00 - Please include a check with your pre-response form. Checks may be made out to Springfield College with “Class of 1970 dues” written in the memo line. We are a poor Class. Dues help with all the extras that add to Reunion. They are not tax deductible and should not be confused with your gift to Springfield College.
  • Financial support for our Alma Mater - This is always paramount to the long-term success of private higher education. Your gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. Large corporations and foundations are more likely to support colleges with a high alumni giving percentage. We are aiming for participation more than amount. To give please visit www.springfield.edu/gift.

July 2019

Dear Classmates:

It is amazing how fast the years go by and at this time next year you will be receiving information on our 50th reunion from Springfield. We would like to make this the best reunion ever. To do this we need your help. We are looking for reunion committee volunteers to work with us to get the word out to classmates and you do not need to live in the Springfield area. If you are still in touch with your friends from SC ask them to get in touch with us so that we can verify email/home addresses. If they are on Facebook encourage them to sign up for our Facebook page, Springfield College - Class of 1970. If you have ideas for our 50th please share them. If you can volunteer some time over the next year let one of us know. Every little bit of outreach will help.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

November 2019

Dear Classmates:

Several weeks ago, Cathy, Sue, Jan and I met with Alumni Director Tamie Kidess Lucey ’81, G’82,
and other members of reunion year classes to begin planning of the 2020 Reunion Weekend,
June 11-13, and more specifically, our 50th Reunion!!!

There is truly a sense of pride one feels when walking back on campus today. The campus has never looked better.  When was the last time you were back on campus? I think the only buildings that may not have changed are the dorms, at least on the outside. But when you walk on campus, so many memories come back to so many fun times we experienced when we were there.

As you think about your plans for next year, please take note of a few priorities:

  • ADD CLASS OF 1970 REUNION JUNE 11-13 TO YOUR CALENDAR – You know the one on your phone, computer, and the one hanging on the wall!!!   You can download a pre-response form below let us know your current thinking.  This will help us with our planning.
  • Class Dues – $20.00. We do need to create a more robust treasury so any help would be appreciated. Checks should be made out to Springfield College with “Class of ’70 Dues” noted on the memo line.
  • Financial support for our Alma Mater. This is always paramount to the long-term success of private higher education. Your gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. Large corporations and foundations are more likely to support colleges with a high alumni giving percentage. We are aiming for participation more than amount. To give please visit www.springfield.edu/gift.
  • We have a Class of 1970 Facebook Group. It is a great way for you to reach out to roommates and classmates you may have lost contact with. We will also post reunion information as it become available. Find us on Facebook here or by searching for the Springfield College Class of 1970 group.

Please feel free to reach out to any of the committee members with ideas for the weekend, to let us know if you would like to help, etc.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone.
