Update from President Cooper Regarding Commencement

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Sadly, we made the difficult decision today to postpone Springfield College Commencement ceremonies scheduled for the weekend of May 16-17, 2020. In response to the coronavirus pandemic and with the uncertainty of how long it will impact large gatherings, it seems prudent to postpone.

I know how important this event is for our students and their families, and for all of us. It is a culmination of hard work and deserves a celebration. We remain committed to hold a Commencement ceremony, and in true Springfield College spirit, we are asking our graduating seniors and their families for their input as we make the decision of identifying a new date.

Our graduating seniors will receive a survey tonight that will ask them to choose between two options - either a ceremony in August or October. We will go with the majority opinion on the preferred month. Once that has been determined, we will select the weekend which works best around already scheduled events. In a time where everyone feels a bit out of control over circumstances, we wanted to give our students and their families a voice in this important decision.

I hope to make an announcement to you about a new Commencement date by early April.

Best,

Mary-Beth A. Cooper

Springfield College President
