April 19: COVID Update | Springfield College

Dear Community,

Happy Sti-Yu-Ka and Rainbow Fest Week! We just finished the first ever Pride PRIDE Parade at Springfield College. The week is full of wonderful fun events, programs, and competitions. So, in between classes and assignments, please take some time to participate in these very old (Sti-Yu-Ka) and very new (Rainbow Fest) Springfield College Traditions.

Last semester was often described to me as a marathon. If that’s the case, then we just completed the marathon portion of this semester – 12 weeks. Congratulations! That means the next three weeks make it an ultramarathon. The finish line is in sight!

As I mentioned in my mid-week update last Thursday, we were seeing a bit of a spike in positive cases. We ended up with 35 for the week. As of this morning, we had 56 students in supportive housing (25% capacity). We are hoping that the spike was due to the long weekend travel and that this week we will return to lower levels of positive cases.

Today (April 19th) marks the day when everyone in the United States over the age of 16 is now eligible to receive the vaccine. We encourage all students to get vaccinated as soon as you can. Here is the state website for mass vaccine site information: https://vaccinesignup.mass.gov/#/

In addition to the mass vaccine site, many pharmacies and doctor’s offices are obtaining the vaccines and providing appointments to eligible individuals.

We do not have a vaccine clinic on campus. However, if you need help getting to an appointment, please feel free to email studentaffairs@springfield.edu and we will see what we can do to help you get there.

Keep up the good work, stay vigilant, and enjoy the week!

Sincerely,
Patrick
