March 26, 2021 Campus COVID Update | Springfield College

Dear Students,

We had planned on sending this email on Monday, but given that next week has a Wellness Day on Friday and this may alter your plans for the week, we wanted to reach out to you earlier than scheduled.

As much as we would like students to remain on campus and be safe next weekend, we understand that many of you are looking forward to going home and being with family. We also know that some of you will be leaving even earlier than Friday. We want to remind you that COVID testing will continue as scheduled next week and you are still required to be tested. If you plan to leave campus before your regularly scheduled test day, please be sure to come earlier in the week to get tested during the make-up times (8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday; 10-11 a.m. Wednesday).

Unfortunately, we are experiencing our first surge this week. We had 10 positives tests from Monday, 17 from Tuesday, 7 from Wednesday, and so far 5 from Thursday. As of Friday morning, we have 80 students in supported isolation or quarantine housing, which is about 38% of our capacity. While we cannot say for sure, we suspect that this surge may be due to St. Patrick's Day activities and other student travel.

So, if you are going home, we urge you to be safe and take all necessary precautions NOT to bring the virus back to campus. Wear a mask, maintain a six-foot distance from others, and wash your hands.

Sincerely,
Patrick
