IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Pausing In-Person Activities | Springfield College

Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020

Members of the Campus Community,

In consultation with public health experts, the President’s Leadership Team, and the Rapid Response Team we have made the decision to pause all in-person activities for the remainder of the day today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday).

The increase in positive COVID-19 cases and in the close contacts identified through our contract tracing process over the last few days are concerning. The health and safety of the campus continues to be our top priority.

The following additional restrictions are in place:

  • Students are asked to remain in their own residence halls and follow all social distancing and masking guidelines.

  • Classes will be conducted remotely, with the exception of previously approved lab courses. Students will be notified by faculty of any in-person classes that will be held.

  • Grab and go meals will be provided by Harvest Table.

  • The Wellness Center will be closed until further notice.

  • Athletics activities are halted.

  • Staff members should consult with their supervisors about expectations for an on-campus presence in our offices.

This is an evolving situation and we are evaluating our next steps as we manage this uptick in cases. You can expect to receive more information tomorrow.

Thank you for your cooperation. I continue to be grateful for the ways that our community rallies together to manage these shifting circumstances.

Sincerely,

Mary-Beth Cooper, PhD, DM
Springfield College President
