Dennis Gildea is a former news reporter, sportswriter, and sports editor who grew up in a newspaper family. His family published the weekly paper Coaldale (Pa.) Observer. Gildea spent the bulk of his newspaper career covering Penn State sports for the Pennsylvania Mirror and the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa. Gildea earned a PhD in mass communication at Penn State, and he has been at Springfield College since 1994. He has had scholarly articles published in numerous publications, and is the author of Hoop Crazy: The Lives of Clair Bee and Chip Hilton.
