She started her clinical training in Chicago while attending graduate school. She gained experience at a women's hospital for high-risk pregnancies and in the youth department at the largest LGBTQ community center in the Midwest. Punturiero worked in community mental health, including as a crisis clinician, before coming to the Springfield College Counseling Center. She enjoys working with a diverse group of presenting concerns and has a special interest in LGBTQ communities, women's reproductive health, trauma, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, body image, and identity development.

Therapeutic Approach

Though Jayna is not tied to any one approach, she tends toward theories that focus on empowerment and relationship. She believes that it is essential to focus on both the individual experience and the systems that each person is a part of. She also believes in the power of stories and is reminded daily that every person has stories to share.
