Joel Dearing has served in many roles before he joined the Springfield College faculty in 1989. From 1982-89, Dearing spent time as the director of athletics, associate director of athletics, and assistant director of athletics for Roger Williams University. He also coached men's and women's collegiate volleyball at Springfield College and Roger Williams, spanning from 1981-2010. He is the past director and owner (30-plus years) of Dearing Volleyball School, Inc., current owner of Dearing Leadership, LLC, and the author of Volleyball Fundamentals (2003), The Untold Story of William G. Morgan - Inventor of Volleyball (2007), and Volleyball Fundamentals (2nd ed., 2019).
Since 1989, Dearing has made the education of his students and their positive Springfield College experience a priority. Specifically, he

- Has an extensive background as a leader, teacher, coach, and athletic administrator; and
