Did you know that fewer than 25 PhD programs for physical education exist in the United States? At Springfield College, we not only have a physical education PhD program, we have a program that’s different. We focus on preparing future faculty members, rather than large research institutions that prepare researchers. However, we don’t leave the research out. You’ll complete a series of research methods and data analysis courses that will lead to the completion of your dissertation, which is original research that can set you up for publication in nationally- and internationally-recognized journals. This provides you with more ways to market yourself when you enter the field.

Hands-on experience through fellowships, faculty members who are as invested in your success as you are, and flexible programs, which you could customize to follow your passion are just some of the hallmarks of what we offer.
Within the program, there are three specializations: exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, and teaching and administration.
