Empower the next generation.

Youth services is a growing and changing field which is built on the foundation of empowering youth, respecting individuality, providing safe environments, and providing contact with caring adults. Today’s communities need youth services professionals with the credentials and abilities to reach out to young people—to engage them in the decisions that will shape their growth as responsible citizens and future community leaders.

Recreation, Youth and Sports Leadership is a unique concentration for students, especially for those who wish to work in youth-serving organizations like the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Youth Inc, Girls and Boys Scouts, Parks and Recreation, 4H and others. It is also a great concentration for youth mentors and community leaders who believe in empowering youth to provide service to communities by creating strong relationships, collaborating with community partners for common goals.

Potential Careers:

  • Nonprofit administration (e.g., YMCA/Boys & Girls Clubs)
  • Recreation center manager
  • Youth development specialist
  • Youth program director
  • Youth and family advocacy
  • Municipal recreation coordinator
  • Social and community service manager
  • Violence and substance abuse prevention

Ariel Rodriguez, Associate Professor of Recreation Management / Program Director of Recreation Management, discusses the Community Youth Leadership Development and Leadership undergraduate online concentration at Springfield College.
