Spring 2022 Move-In Information

The Office of Housing & Residence Life hopes that you are enjoying a healthy and restorative fall and we look forward to welcoming you in the spring! To ensure a smooth arrival to campus, all students will need to sign up for a move-in shift, following the instructions below. For all returning students, this must be completed no later than Friday, January 14 at Noon; students may also adjust their shift up until that time. This is a live, interactive system - as soon as capacity is hit, that shift will no longer show as an option.

Move-In Information:

The safety of parents, students, and all members of the campus community is of utmost importance during the move in process. Please ensure that students and family members maintain appropriate social distancing. Students should arrive and unpack within their designated move in date and time. Students and those who are helping them move-in should be symptom free for at least 72 hours (3 days) before their scheduled move-in time. If you or those helping you are ill, with COVID-19 or otherwise, you may not return to campus at this time.

Masks

The Springfield College mask policy follows the best practices as set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask on campus while indoors. Face coverings are optional for vaccinated individuals when outdoors, including at all outdoor events. Unvaccinated individuals are strongly advised to wear a face covering and keep socially distanced when outdoors.

Additional Information

For all New residents: Please make sure you have provided your vaccination documentation or exemption request to the Health Center (email healthcenter@springfield.edu) by December 15th or within 2 weeks of spring 2022 acceptance.

All new and returning students must arrive at the residence hall check-in tent station in the lobby of their residence hall with proof of COVID testing clearance from the Health Center before they will be issued their room keys.

New Students: New and transfer undergraduate students will move in Monday, January 17, Noon to 3 p.m.

IMPORTANT - Health Center Testing

  1. ALL students must first visit the PE Annex (239 Wilbraham Avenue) to receive a COVID test from the Health Center. Students are encouraged to arrive at the earlier portion of their move-in window to allow time to be tested. Please ensure to bring a Picture ID to the Health Center for your test. Students will be required to wear their mask until their arrival test confirms a negative status.
  2. All students arriving from abroad (vaccinated and unvaccinated) are required to have a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within one week (preferably 72 hours) of arriving on campus. Students who do not comply will need to quarantine. Antibody testing is not acceptable.
  3. Mandatory pre-arrival COVID test for any student who is not fully vaccinated (fourteen days post final dose). Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within one week (preferably 72 hours) of arrival to campus. Students who do not comply will not be allowed to move into the residential halls.
  4. While not required, it is recommended that ALL students receive a COVID test 12-14 days prior to their arrival on campus. Data shows that vaccinated individuals can contract COVID-19 and remain asymptomatic. Advance testing will allow a student who tests positive to complete the 10 day isolation period at home, before arriving on campus. Residential students who test positive upon arrival will need to move into supportive isolation housing for 10 days.
  5. Any student who has tested positive within the past 90 days will be exempt from surveillance testing (which includes pre-arrival testing, arrival testing and weekly surveillance testing). Anyone who has tested positive should provide documentation of their positive test to the Health Center (healthcenter@springfield.edu). All students are still required to report to the testing center for clearance prior to moving into their residential space.
  6. Home positive test results will not be accepted. If you test positive on an at-home COVID-19 test, you should have a confirmatory COVID-19 test done. Confirmatory testing can be done through a healthcare provider, urgent care facility, pharmacy or local testing center.

Residence Hall / SC ID

If you are a NEW student you will need to submit a picture for your ID card no later than Friday, January 14.  If you do not submit a picture by this date please understand that your move-in process may be significantly delayed. All photos have to be passport-style, a headshot with a light and solid-colored background. The best photos have room around the head (for cropping). Please be the only one in the photo. Dark photos, photos with hats or sunglasses, and photos with multiple people in the picture will be rejected. Any issues regarding your photo or ID cards in general can be sent to pridecard@springfield.edu. You can also visit the Orientation website for more information.

As always, if you have questions, please contact the Housing & Residence Life Office at 413-748-3102 or reslife@springfield.edu for assistance.
