Susan Joel has taught sociology at Springfield College since 1995. Prior to that she taught at Olivet College (Mich.), the University of Redlands (Calif.), and Michigan State University. Before obtaining her PhD, Joel worked in human services as a rehabilitation counselor with people with chronic mental illnesses, as a program director at a shelter for homeless families, and as a domestic violence and sexual assault counselor.
