Campers in canoe

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in a summer camp position at Camp Massasoit. Our staff is a select team of individuals carefully chosen for their enthusiasm, leadership skills, and dedication to providing the highest quality camp experience to our campers and the overall program

Camp Massasoit is a multi-recreational and educational camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 16 years, located on the East Campus of Springfield College. Our day camp programs, for campers ages 5 to 12 years will participate in the following types of activities: challenge course, swimming, boating, archery, nature, and outdoor skills, games, arts and crafts, and themed “All Camp” days. Additionally, for campers ages 11 to 16 years we have three adventure-based programs that they can choose from. Voyager Camp, for campers ages 11 to 13 years will allow campers to take their first step towards becoming an independent adventurer without the pressure of an overnight. Our second adventure-based program is Walk-A-Bout. Walk-A-Bout is designed as a stepping stone for campers ages twelve to fourteen years, who are seeking to further their outdoor skills. Walk-A-Bout teaches fundamental wilderness competencies in conjunction with team-building and leadership skills with one overnight experience. Walk-A-Bout helps prepare campers for our third adventure-based program, Adventure Camp, which is available to campers ages 14 to 16 years who are eager for a challenge! The first week will be spent preparing for a four-night wilderness trip that takes place Monday through Friday of the second week.

Through our programming, we strive to provide a character-developing environment that embodies Springfield College’s Humanics mission of equally educating the spirit, mind, and body. We operate for nine weeks every summer, which includes a week of staff training and four two-week sessions. In 2017, our staff-training week will be June 19 through June 23, covering approximately 40 hours of training. Our day camp is operational Monday through Friday, June 26 through Aug. 18, 2017.

Review our downloadable forms for all of the documents necessary to compile a complete application packet. This includes a staff application (new or returning), a staff information guide, reference form, and activity plans. All of this information will better educate you about our summer programs, including our philosophy, mission, and goals.

If you are a returning staff member, you must complete the returning staff application. If you are returning and looking for a different position at camp, then you must also submit a new activity plan that corresponds with the new position you are looking to fulfill. If you are a new staff member, then you must complete the new staff application and provide three written reference forms, an essay, and one activity plan. Once all of this has been received by our office, an interview may be offered. If not, a letter will be sent thanking you for taking the time to apply.

Employment decisions will be made after the interview process is completed and all references have been contacted.

If the decision is made to offer you a position, we will contact you. We will then send an employment agreement to the address listed on your application. We encourage you to apply early since there are a limited number of positions on our team. If employment is not offered, we will contact you by mail.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Springfield College’s Camp Massasoit please make sure you return all application materials no later than Feb. 24. If you have any questions about our camp, feel free to contact us at (413) 740-5011. We look forward to receiving your application!
