Springfield College opened its free CPR training event on campus on Thursday, Sept. 2 with Springfield College business professor and Springfield City Councilor Tim Allen and Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper participating and welcoming attendees.

The CPR training is part of an awareness campaign to support Tim's son Timmy Allen, a local middle school principal and coach, who suffered a major heart attack in early July and is now recovering.

It's not too late to use 30 minutes of your time to help save a life. Spots remain open for CPR training sessions on  Friday, Sept. 3 at 9, 9:40, and 10:20 a.m. at the Springfield College Field House. Participants will only need to sign up for and attend one 30-minute session. The session will be a hands-only, non-certification American Red Cross class to get as many people exposed to the skills needed for bystander CPR. Athletic training faculty from the Springfield College School of Physical Education, Performance, and Sport Leadership will lead the workshops.

Timmy's mother, Mary, is a retired education professor at Springfield College. Timmy's family and friends' goal is to have as many people in our community as possible trained to perform CPR. The family believes Timmy's life was saved because his neighbor successfully performed CPR on him.

To register or for more information, please call or email Laura Feeley at the School of Physical Education, Performance, and Sport Leadership at (413) 748-3413 or lfeeley@springfield.edu.

In order to participate, participants must have the physical ability to get down on the ground and back up and be able to physically perform chest compressions for at least one minute.

Out of an abundance of caution and to continue to protect the health and well-being of our entire campus community, Springfield College requires all individuals to wear masks when inside campus buildings, regardless of vaccination status.
