Health and Physical Education Pedagogy Fellowship

Primary Responsibilities:

This position is directly attached to the K-12 Health Education Methods and Physical Education Methods and courses. These courses have a lecture/lab format with the fellow directly involved in planning, instruction, and assessment.  The fellow must have licensure and/or a strong background in K-12 Health and Physical Education.

Responsibilities fulfilled by this graduate fellow includes the following:

1) Observe and supervise pre-service teachers during lab sessions on campus and in public schools, and provide feedback.

2) Evaluate class assignments and lesson plans/reflections.

3) Meet with the students to discuss lesson plans, teaching strategies, and questions prior to lab sessions.

4) Field questions and emails regarding course content, lab, etc.

5) Provide transportation by driving a college van with students to schools

6) Assist in developing content and pedagogy for lecture and lab; gather materials, set up and co-teach or facilitate student-centered activities within the class period

7) Assist in the collection and dissemination of the Placement Application Packet, Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) for public schools.

Secondary Responsibilities: 

Assist with coordinating schedule for labs.  Assist faculty member with data entry.


Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  1. Certified health and physical education teacher license and/or teaching experience in the field
  2. Valid Driver’s license
  3. Ability to obtain driver safety certification
  4. Competent in educational technology

Position Requirements:

  1. Relevant and contemporary content and pedagogical knowledge in the fields of Health and Physical Education
  2. Ability to observe and analyze best practices in Health and Physical Education venues and subsequently provide valuable feedback conducive towards improving the student’s ability to deliver effective lessons
  3. Ability to evaluate written lesson plans in the Health and Physical Education disciplines
  4. Interpersonal skills suitable for meeting and conducting meaningful dialog/feedback with enrolled students including the display of compassion as the evolving pre-service teachers hone their craft
  5.  The ability and attitude to display the highest degree of responsible and professional behaviors at all times.
