Physical Education Pedagogy - Elementary Teaching Fellowship

Primary Responsibilities:

The teaching fellow will assist in physical education pedagogy methods courses focused on grades PreK-2 and 3-5, involving both a lecture and a lab portion.  Pre-service teachers enrolled in the course build pedagogical content knowledge while also engaging in early field experience at the elementary level.  For the lecture sessions on campus, the teaching fellow assists with planning and teaching.  For lab, the fellow assists with transportation to/from school sites in the greater Springfield area, and observes, supervises, and evaluates pre-service teachers’ lesson plans and teaching episodes. Following teaching episodes, the graduate fellow will assist with post-conference meetings to support reflection.

Responsibilities fulfilled by this graduate fellow includes the following:

  • Grade reflections, class assignments and lesson plans/reflections for lab
  • Field questions and emails regarding course material, lab, etc.
  • Assist in managing the learning management system
  • Coordinate
  • Observe, supervise, evaluate, and provide feedback to pre-service teachers during their teaching experiences
  • Hold office hours and meet with students
  • Drive a Springfield College van with students to and from schools.
  • Assist in developing content for lecture and lab; gather materials, set up and co-teach or facilitate lessons

Secondary Responsibilities: 

Assist with coordinating schedules for labs, including collaborating with the supervising practitioners at the school sites.

Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  1. PK-12 Physical Education teacher licensure and/or teaching experience in the field
  2. Relevant pedagogical content knowledge in the field of Physical Education
  3. Valid Driver’s license
  4. Ability to obtain driver safety certification

Position Requirements:

  1. Ability to observe and analyze pre-service teachers in the field, and subsequently provide effective feedback
  2. Interpersonal skills suitable for interacting with pre-service teachers, elementary school supervising practitioners, and secondary school administrators
  3. Professional disposition
