Physical Education, Wellness, and Physical Literacy Equipment Graduate Associate

Position Description

The Physical Education, Wellness, and Physical Literacy Equipment Graduate Associate performs a number of essential functions within the Physical Education and Health Education Department.  Courses in the PEHE Department, including those with PEAC, PEPC, PHED, MOSK, and WLPL prefixes, require a range of equipment and spaces.  This position is designed to support those course needs through equipment management and preparation.  Primary and secondary responsibilities are listed below, along with qualifications and requirements for the position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare equipment for PEAC, PEPC, PHED, MOSK, and WLPL classes
  • Maintain equipment for these courses
  • Assist with set up of spaces and equipment for class – ex. badminton and volleyball nets
  • Organize, store, and clean equipment and equipment room
  • Inventory equipment at the end of each semester; identify ordering needs in relation to courses being offered in the subsequent semester
  • Maintain equipment and inventory spreadsheets
  • Review existing equipment for safety and course needs
  • Train and supervise student workers in Dana Gym equipment room

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support instructors in finding alternate spaces for classes as needed
  • Substitute for instructors or equipment room student workers as needed

Fellowship Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

Candidates for this position should have strong organizational skills and working knowledge of technology.  Proficiency in creating and using spreadsheets is required.  Background or experience in physical education or athletic administration or sport/recreation management is needed in order to understand interactions among equipment, spaces, and pedagogical needs.  Professional interest in these fields is also desired.  This position holds a considerable level of responsibility and requires independence and initiative. 

Position Requirements:

The fellow must be a full-time graduate student at Springfield College in good standing in a field of study related to the fellowship. The fellow is required to be available and on campus during daytime hours to interface with instructors and equipment room student workers.  Accommodations with the fellow’s course load will be made.
