Residence Life Operations Associate

NOTE: Students admitted to the Student Affairs Administration (SAA) master's program receive priority consideration.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Graduate Associate (GA) reports to the Associate Director of Housing & Residence Life and they serve as an integral member of the department of Housing and Residence Life.  The Graduate Associate assists with the training and facilities operations aspects of the Housing and Residence Life Department.  They must be able to work (20) hours per week in order to assist the Associate Director on a daily basis while completing the assigned tasks. This person must be able to work on an independent basis with little supervision at times.  They must also be able to collaborate on projects and tasks with various campus offices and stakeholders.  Goals of the Graduate Associate for Operations include but are not limited to: fostering the operations and maintenance of the physical facilities for the comfort, health and safety of all residential students.

Example tasks and duties include:

  • Assists in daily operations of the Housing & Residence Life office.
  • Attend weekly Housing & Residence Life Departmental staff meetings.
  • Oversee and manage the College’s Desk Assistant program in consultation with the Associate Director
  • Serves in a limited capacity in the Housing and Residence Life Professional Staff On-Call Duty Rotation
  • Assists in the marketing and publicity for Graduate Housing and the Undergraduate Room Selection process.
  • Assists in the operations of college owned Graduate Housing including, but not limited to work orders, health & safety inspections, and furniture inventory.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of undergraduate and graduate summer housing.
  • Assists with establishing/maintaining collaborative relationships between various departments such as Registrar, Student Accounts Office, Admissions, Harvest Table Food Service, ITS, Facilities, and Public Safety.
  • Assists with the implementation of residence hall opening and closing procedures.  Additionally, assists with identifying housing options for students staying for vacation breaks.
  • Assists with the coordination of key distribution, replacement of lost keys and key return procedures.
  • Assists with the implementation of room and building inspections; help with determining accountability of students for damage; assess damage charges; process charges to student accounts.
  • Assists with the completion of work orders for all repairs in all college-owned housing and ensures timely completion of work requests.
  • Assists in the marketing and publicity of college housing including, but not limited to the undergraduate housing brochure, all admissions open houses, and housing tours.
  • Provides presentations for the department and serves as a representative at conferences, admissions open house events and other activities as needed
  • Participates in all committees deemed necessary by the Director of Housing & Residence Life.
  • Designs and continually updates the bulletin board near the entrance of the Housing and Residence Life Office.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life or their designee

Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

Experience working with people and the ability to relate positively with college students is essential. Experience and leadership in a residence hall or similar setting is necessary. Specific skills should include the ability to be an effective communicator as they will be dealing with people on the phone and in the office on a daily basis. The Graduate Associate for Operations needs to be a full-time graduate student at Springfield College. Any additional commitment in the form of coaching, on campus employment, or other tasks must be approved by the Director of Housing and Residence Life. This position is a Live-On position and includes on campus housing. 

Contractual arrangements for the academic year, mid-August through May 31, will include a tuition waiver for 18 credit hours per year.
