Sport Management - Teaching and Research Fellowship

Primary Responsibilities:

The fellow will be engaged in supporting the Recreation Program director with teaching and
scholarly research support. Duties may include any of the following:
 Secondary responsibility for classroom research and instructional material support,
particularly in support of service learning opportunities with professional organizations
 Responsibility for tutoring or assisting students requiring additional support for
Recreation classes (ie. SMRT 103, 106,116, 120).
 May be responsible for course assignments and grading
 Responsibility for researching and creating instructional materials for all courses in
Recreation
 Assisting the faculty member with research and professional activities related to the field,
including making presentations if possible
 May include learning objectives assessment support

Narrative: The GF 96 position is primarily responsible for instructional support and development
and professional activities associated with Recreation Management academic programming
needs. This is not limited to researching and support for accreditation needs, research and
support of Recreation instruction (classroom instruction as needed), and supporting all
professional activity of the Recreation faculty, including conference and service learning
presentations. The fellow must have a strong knowledge of Recreation program projects and
assignments for grading or undergraduate student advising. Fellows are responsible for
cultivating service learning, professional relationships in support of instructional and
scholarly/creative activities. The fellow is also responsible for Recreation Management academic
assessment data collection.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Secondary duties can include:
 Administrative responsibilities associated with marketing and recruitment efforts of the
program
 Assisting the faculty member with doing administrative duties associated with research,
such as data entry.
 Other office management tasks including social media and Moodle management.


Narrative: The GF96 fellow has secondary responsibilities to support recruiting and marketing
the Recreation Management program, including attending graduate fairs or manning recruiting
booths. The fellow may also be required to manage social media and/or technology associated
with academics and advising.


Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to work effectively with
students, field professionals, faculty, and prospective student and parents.
 Knowledge and interest in Recreation Management
 Possess great leadership skills
 Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Moodle and other similar technology

Position Requirements:
The Fellow must be a full-time graduate student at Springfield College in good standing and in a
field of study related to the Fellowship. A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain driver
safety certification is recommended.
