Student Basic Needs Coordinator

Primary Responsibilities:

To provide ongoing support and assistance with providing resources to meet the basic needs of students. This includes:

  • Manage the operations of the Pride Pantry, the on-campus food pantry that services students, faculty and staff experiencing food insecurity.
  • Manage the online ordering and curbside pickup program for those unable to shop during open hours.
  • Recruit, train and supervise student volunteers to serve at the pantry.
  • Utilize PantrySoft (software program) to keep an updated inventory of food in the pantry and to collect data that will inform operations of the pantry.
  • Coordinate the intake of food for the pantry including organizing food drives, donation events and creating partnerships with local organizations to provide regular food donations.
  • Assist with the management of the community garden located at the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement
  • Run regular reports through PantrySoft to provide information regarding student use and other types of information.
  • Promote all programs related to food insecurity including the Pride Pantry, Swipe Out Hunger and the Food Recovery Network.
  • Serve as a member of the Food Coalition group.
     

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with other departments to collect donations to maintain a thrift area in the back of the Pride Pantry.
  • Work with the Director of the Center for Service and Leadership to create community partnerships and resources to assist students with housing insecurity, SNAP benefits and other student basic needs.
  • Create and maintain a basic needs resource area in the Pride Pantry.
  • Work with the Dean of Students to support students in need of assistance.
  • Provide information to faculty and staff about available resources and how to support students in need of services.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities offered through the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Serve on committees as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Fellowship Required Qualifications

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience supervising, teaching, or leading college age adults
  • Experience with managing programs and developing partnerships
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with productivity software (Microsoft Office and Google)
  • Ability to organize and initiate program and activities
  •  Ability to solve problems and work independently

Position Requirements:

Applicants must be matriculated into a graduate program as a full-time student at Springfield College with a preference for a career in higher education.
