Tutor Manager

Primary Responsibilities:  The Academic Success Center’s Tutor Manager Associate performs a number of essential functions. The Tutor Manager Associate is designed to be supervised and work directly with the Academic Success Coordinator to support the ASC’s four tutorial programs through scheduling, coordination of tutor requests, supporting the hiring and training processes for peer tutors, and helping to ensure quality tutoring and student satisfaction.  

  • Perform complex administrative work with considerable internal and external contacts

  • Become proficient using TutorTrac software, the platform used to manage tutor schedules and appointments.

  • Assist the ASC Coordinator in organizing and coordinating tutor schedules

  • Assign student and tutor matches for the Content Tutorial Program and Conversation Partners Program

  • Facilitate initial communications between students and tutors

  • Organize student employee paperwork and records

  • Respond to student concerns and questions

  • Respond to tutor concerns and questions

  • Communicate directly with faculty to garner tutor recommendations

  • Support the tutor training program

  • Evaluate performance of tutors

  • Assist with database management for tutorial services

  • Review and analyze tutorial reports

  • Deliver ASC classroom presentations as needed

 

Secondary Responsibilities:  

 

Center Monitor Role:

  • Greet students and answer their questions

  • Help connect students to the appropriate resources within the Academic Success Center and other departments on campus

  • Monitor the space to make sure it is remains an effective study environment

  • Offer promotional or informative presentations as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ASC Coordinator
     

Required Qualifications:  Candidates for this position should be motivated, highly organized, and detail-orientated.  Prior tutoring experience and experience with CRLA Level 1 certification is preferable.  In order to get to know and understand students, tutors, and faculty, the ideal Tutor Manager would be personable, patient, and have relationship-building skills. In addition to this, the Tutor Manager should be highly proficient with Google Docs, Drive, Calendar, and Sheets, and willing to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

 

This position holds a considerable level of responsibility and requires a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. The Tutor Manager makes frequent decisions regarding tasks, time, and data, and is required to deal discreetly with confidential documents. This position can be challenging with the high volume of communication needed to coordinate with a large staff of tutors and follow up with student clients. A student in this position must be tactful and supportive as well as protective of student privacy.

 

 

 


Fellowship Required Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Ideal candidates would have some longevity in this role.  Thus, we are looking for students who will be available for multiple years.

  • This role utilizes a wide variety of technologies and software platforms.  Ideal candidates should have a good familiarity with using technology and the ability to learn new software.

  • This ASC Associate will work his/her hours on a set weekly schedule with hours spread over at least four days per week in the ASC. Therefore, candidates who live at a reasonable distance from campus may find this a more rewarding position than those who live far from campus.

  • When scheduling interviews for potential candidates, incoming graduate students who have been accepted and deposited will be given preference.

  • Successful applicants for this position need to be in good academic standing. Graduate students currently in their program need a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and new graduate students need a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher.
