The teaching fellow is an instructor of record for courses in the Wellness and Physical Literacy sequence.  The sequence is part of the Core Curriculum at Springfield College.  The 100-level courses introduce students to concepts of wellness through movement.  The 200-level courses allow students to refine skills within specific areas of focus within wellness and physical literacy.  At the 300-level, students examine college and community resources for future wellness and physical literacy endeavors, and plan for their Wellness Passport experiences.  The teaching fellow is assigned to teach courses within the sequence based on their competency areas and departmental need.  In preparation for teaching and to support on-going reflection and continuous improvement, the teaching fellow attends meetings and professional development workshops.  All functions of an instructor are fulfilled by the teaching fellow, including preparing the syllabus, planning lessons, teaching, holding office hours, assessing, and entering final grades.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach Wellness and Physical Literacy courses in the fall and spring semesters
  • Use the provided syllabi as a framework and adjust as needed; submit syllabi for each course taught to supervisor
  • Attend all mandatory meetings/workshops conducted by the supervisor
  • Prepare Lesson Plans
  • Adhere to all Institution and School of PEPSL policies.
  • Submit grades
  • Create and maintain a Brightspace classroom for each course taught
  • Hold 5 office hours per week

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Authorize course overloads
  • Arrange student transportation to off campus locations

  • Degree in Health, Physical Education, or related fields
  • Licensure in K-12 Health and/or Physical Education or equivalent
  • Teaching experience at any level
  • Responsible, mature, organized, and professional
  • Competent to teach Wellness and Physical Literacy
