Peter DePergola is the Shaughness Family chair for the Study of the Humanities; associate professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities; director of the Undergraduate and Graduate Bioethics and Medical Humanities programs; and executive director of the Saint Augustine Center for Ethics, Religion, and Culture at Elms College. He serves concurrently as system director of Clinical Ethics, chief of the Ethics Consultation Service, co-chair of the Ethics Advisory Council, and director of the Clinical and Organizational Rotations in Ethics (CORE) program at Hartford HealthCare. DePergola holds secondary academic and research appointments at nearly two dozen additional universities, associations, institutes, academies, and societies.

DePergola is double board certified in healthcare ethics consultation (HEC-C) through the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities and in clinical thanatology (CT) through the Association of Death Education and Counselling. A professional member of more than a dozen professional organizations and academic societies, he did his residency in neurocritical care ethics at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, his fellowship in neuropsychiatric ethics at Tufts University School of Medicine, and his advanced training in neurothanatological ethics at Harvard Medical School.
