Colby Wilson '23
As a first-year student, Colby Wilson ‘23 appreciated the way upper-class students looked out for him, mentored him. Ever since his first campus visit, Springfield College had felt like home, but after a few weeks, he was beginning to see that it was a place for him to grow as well.
“Throughout high school, I knew that I was a leader, someone who could bring people together. But I never really had the chance to do that until Springfield College. Now, as a junior on the [track and field] team, I feel it’s my job to bring in those younger kids as leaders,” he said.
Colby has certainly set the tone. The track and field athlete was a NEWMAC champion in the long jump last spring and he has already set a personal goal of being named an All-American this season.
Colby’s ambitions are driven by his work ethic, but his success owes a lot to donor support.
“Donations are the glue behind everything in the athletics department,” he said.
After losing a year to the pandemic two seasons ago, Colby appreciates every opportunity he gets to compete.
“Something we talk about all the time is making the most of every chance you get. So when I put on that jersey, I carry that with me. It’s pretty special every day.”
