The Deborah Salierno Kristopik '85 Scholarship Fund
Deborah (Deb) Salierno Kristopik
Deb, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Springfield College in 1985, during the centennial year of the college, with a Bachelor of Science in physical education. She received a Master of Science degree in health and human performance. Deb was a teacher, coach, and mentor to her students at The Holy Cross School and Central Connecticut College. For the past 13 years, she served as wellness director and assistant director of therapeutic recreation at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford, Conn. Deb loved the residents and brought much joy to those who passed through their doors. An avid sports fan and passionate animal lover, Deb's love of life lit up every room she ever entered. On May 19, 2020, Deb succumbed to complications of COVID.
While at Springfield College, Deb attended as many sporting events as possible and participated on the equestrian team. She loved her horses. Deb made many friends while on the campus. During a virtual memorial service held in May and attended by friends from the classes of 1983-86, as well as retired physical education faculty, she was remembered as always upbeat and smiling and a friend to all.
About the Fund
This scholarship was created by alumni, family and friends of Deborah Salierno Kristopik, Class of 1985, who passed away in May 2020. The Scholarship shall award $2,500 on an annual basis until the funds have been expended. The preference for this fund is to provide scholarships for students who participate in the Equestrian Club and demonstrate financial need. Should there be a year in which no member of the Club has a demonstrated need for financial assistance, the second preference is to support a female student who is majoring in Physical Education. Should there be a year in which no student matching either preference has demonstrated financial need, then the Scholarship may be awarded to any deserving student with financial need. These preferences honor Deborah’s interests while at Springfield College.
