Athletic Training Clinical Experiences | Springfield College

Athletic Training Clinical Experiences

Athletic Training students will engage in 51 weeks of hands-on learning in rich, dynamic, and stimulating clinical learning environments. Clinical education experiences are designed to expose students to clinical practice in a variety of settings under the direct supervision of experienced and properly credentialed healthcare providers. Springfield College utilizes highly skilled, evidence-based preceptors and proudly connects with its strong athletic training alumni base from across the country to ensure the highest quality of clinical education.

Each phase of the clinical curriculum will continue to build upon previous didactic and laboratory coursework, leading students to a culminating immersive experience targeted at their specific career goals. Students will participate in 4 integrated clinical experiences, allowing for a concurrent and seamless classroom-to-clinic learning process. Additionally, students will complete an immersive clinical experience in their second year that aligns with their professional goals, allowing students to explore clinical opportunities nationwide. These experiences can include interscholastic, intercollegiate, and professional sport settings, along with less traditional settings, such as performing arts, hospitals, physician offices, rehabilitation clinics, and more. When possible, students will engage in supplemental clinical experiences where they can interact with a wide array of other licensed healthcare providers to gain a greater understanding of the interdisciplinary healthcare system.

Clinical Education Requirements:

Prior to participating in clinical education experiences, all Springfield College athletic training students will complete a comprehensive background check through Certiphi Screening, a global leader in applicant screening services tailored to the healthcare industry. A criminal background may disqualify students from participating in clinical experiences, which are required for successful completion of the degree program.
