Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant
Explore New Financial Opportunities for Springfield College School Counseling Program
School counselor trainees will be prepared by faculty in the Department of Counseling through either an accelerated program, designed for those who hold master’s degrees in related fields, or a traditional graduate education program. There will also be a pipeline to mentor and support high school students who are interested in pursuing a counseling degree in the future.
A federal Department of Education grant provides funding for graduate students who have been accepted into the master’s, certificate of advanced graduate study, or post-master’s certificate program in School Counseling at Springfield College.
To be considered for grant funding, you must, once accepted into the program, complete an application annually. Up to 15 students in each cohort will be provided with tuition assistance annually, which will substantially reduce the cost per credit as well as provide additional assistance for books and other expenses.
Priority will be given to applicants who are:
- Springfield Public Schools (SPS) or Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) employees who are seeking school counseling licensure
- Members of the Springfield or Holyoke community who are committed to working in SPS or HPS for a minimum of three years post-degree completion
- Graduates of SPS or HPS
- Students who reflect the diverse identities of students in SPS and HPS (e.g., first-generation college students, racial or ethnic minoritized students, Spanish speaking or bilingual students, or other minoritized identities)
- Students who are AmeriCorps members
- Students who work for one of our community-based partner organizations (in addition to tuition assistance, and other funding, students who work for partner organizations can receive a 15% tuition reduction)
