Korey Boyd, PhD, and Mara Simon, EdD, both assistant professors of physical education and health education, co-authored “Culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogies for and by Black and Latinx preservice physical education teachers” in the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education in 2021. The two also co-authored “Cracks in the narrative: Black and Latinx pre-service PE teachers in predominantly white PETE programs” in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy in September 2021. In 2020, Boyd co-authored “Promoting the 50 million strong agenda through sport education” in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Folsom (Colorado State University), Virginia McLaurin (University of Massachusetts), Arianne E. Eason (University of California-Berkeley), and Stephanie A. Fryberg (University of Michigan).
Katherine Dugan, PhD, assistant professor of religion, authored “Manly natural family planning: Cultivating Catholic masculinity” in American Catholic Studies in spring 2021. She also served as co-editor of “Forum: Studying masculinities, Catholic style” in American Catholic Studies in spring 2021. Dugan also authored “Humanae Vitae, Natural Family Planning, and US Catholic Identity: The Founding of the Couple to Couple League” in US Catholic Historian in winter 2021. In addition, Dugan reviewed Julie Leininger Pycior’s Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton and the Greatest Commandment: Radical Love in Times of Crisis (Orbis Books, 2020) for The Journal of Social Encounters.

Jasmin C. Hutchinson, PhD, professor of exercise science and Samuel A.E. Headley, PhD, professor of exercise science, were co-authors of a presentation with Quinn Pack, MD, cardiologist at Baystate Health, titled “Exercise testing in cardiac rehabilitation: A national survey” presented at the American Association of Cardiology in Atlanta in May 2021. Hutchinson also authored a chapter, “Perceived Effort and Exertion” in Essentials of exercise and sport psychology: An open access textbook in 2021. And, Hutchinson co-authored “The effect of endurance exercise modality on markers of fatigue” in the International Journal of Kinesiology and Sports Science in 2021. Her co-author was Andrew Moore, G’15, PhD’17, an assistant professor of kinesiology at Augusta (Ga.) University.
Regina Kaufman, PT, EdD, NCS, professor of physical therapy, co-authored “Movement system diagnoses for balance dysfunction: Recommendations from the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy’s movement system task force” in Physical Therapy in September 2021.
Longxi Li, MS, doctoral student in physical education teaching and administration, was the lead author on an article titled “Physical activity participation and the environment in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis protocol” in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in June 2021. His co-author was Michelle Moosbrugger, PhD, associate professor of physical education and chair of the Department of Physical Education and Health Education.
Stephen A. Maris, PhD, assistant professor of exercise science and graduate coordinator, authored “Biologic sex modifies aldosterone’s secretion at a cellular level” in the Journal of Endocrinology in October 2021. In addition, he co-authored “The onset of exercise-associated hyponatremia and individual differences in inappropriate arginine vasopressin excretion: A review of proposed mechanisms” in Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology in September 2021. His co-author was Michelle Stehman, MS, graduate assistant and doctoral student in exercise physiology (expected graduation in 2024).

Missy-Marie Montgomery, PhD, professor of English, co-authored “Call & Response: An Exchange of Poetry and Collage” in Kolaj magazine in August 2021. The six-page article featured an interview with Montgomery and artist and writer Trish Crapo, as well as collage and poetry by each. The work in the magazine was part of an exhibit last year by Jessica Poser, EdD, assistant professor of art and community engagement, called “What We Made: Art in the time of COVID.”
