Springfield College and Springfield Public Schools (SPS) are proud to announce the continuation of the S-Cubed Program, a strategic partnership that increases the number of teachers who come from racially or ethnically diverse backgrounds and/or are fully prepared and dedicated to meeting the challenges faced in high priority areas of mathematics, science, and moderate disabilities. The S-Cubed Program also includes the Paradigm Shift, which is a paraprofessional to teacher pathway with a goal of diversifying the teacher workforce.

Since 2013, S-Cubed has been a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education-approved program for teachers who currently work in the SPS system and are looking to receive their post-baccalaureate initial teaching licensure.

“I am excited to continue to be involved in this project because it enables Springfield College in collaboration with Springfield Public Schools to provide a pathway for diverse teacher/paraeducator participants to become fully licensed, effective teachers and increase the number of mathematics, science, and special education teachers who are committed to, and successful at, increasing student learning and academic achievement in the district for years to come,” said Linda Davis-Delano, Springfield College Director of Educator Preparation and Licensure.

This well-established program includes the delivery of coursework that enables the cohort members to immediately put their learning into practice. S-Cubed includes a value-added support system that provides each teacher with extensive, robust on-site coaching.  Springfield College Department of Education faculty members deliver coursework on-site in the schools, and provide on-site coaching to cohort members.

“Both organizations, Springfield College and Springfield Public Schools, are deeply committed to diversifying the teacher workforce through the development and retention of highly effective, fully licensed teachers and recognize the strength of the S-Cubed Program’s innovative delivery model that supports this undertaking,” added Davis-Delano.

In addition to fostering increased student learning, S-Cubed incorporates elements of the SPS district’s “Springfield Effective Educator Development System” or SEEDS. This includes meeting the needs of all students, engaging families and communities, and developing professional learning communities, where teachers work together to help students achieve.
