The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion invites you to celebrate Black History Month. Below is a list of events hosted by our office, student clubs, and the division of Campus Life and Inclusion that will take place this February. We can't wait to see you!

Afro Dance Night
Monday, February 10
On Monday, February 10 as part of the kick-off to the celebration of Black History Month on campus, we were treated to a dance workshop led by Tracey Thomas, a gifted dancer and performer. Thomas guided participants in learning about movement and the history of African dance that is embedded into the cultural fabric of many African American communities. View Photo Gallery...

Tuesday, February 11
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with student clubs, and the Division of Campus Life and Inclusion, continue to host Black History Month programs on campus.
On Tuesday, February 11, all students, staff, and faculty, were welcomed to join together for an hour of connection, community building, and networking. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments and meaningful conversation. This event was tailored, but not limited to, members from underrepresented identities, including students of color, LGTBQ+, women, first-generation, immigrants, refugees, students of varying religions, and students of varying socioeconomic status. Legacy Ball

The Student Society for Bridging Diversity’s annual Legacy Ball celebrates the legacy of John Wilson and his 38-year-long career at Springfield College, which was dedicated to advancing diversity. The dress code for this year's event will be black tie, with an Enchanted Forest theme. Please join us for cocktail hour at 6 p.m.; the program officially starts at 7 p.m.

Movie Talk Back: 42 (Jackie Robinson)
Tuesday, February 18, 7 p.m.
Cleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room (A/B), Flynn Campus Union
Join us for a "talk back" conversation about 42, the 2013 movie depicting the experiences of baseball legend Jackie Robinson, starring Chadwick Boseman. Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946. Facing racism on all sides, he demonstrates true courage and admirable restraint by not reacting in kind and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him. Light refreshments will be provided during this event.

Peeling the Onion to Serve the Pride

Join Thomas Donato, graduate assistant for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as he kicks off his semester-long anti-racism dialogue series. Inspired by Emmanuel Acho's Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man on YouTube, this first conversation will include viewing an episode of Acho's series and discussing key takeaways and insights that can be used to navigate our community in a more kind, accepting, and aware way.
