You are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life
In memory of James ’67 and Virginia, G’75, (Obler) Anderson
Celebration of Life on Campus: On Saturday, August 23, 2025, from Noon to 3 p.m., the family welcomes you to gather to honor, remember, and celebrate Jim and Ginny who made a lasting impact on the Springfield College community.
The program will be held in the Harold C. Smith Presentation Room at Judd Gymnasia at Noon, with a reception to follow in the Springfield College Museum at 1 p.m. Parking will be available in Campus Lot 4 on Wilbraham Avenue. This gathering is open to all who knew and were inspired by the Andersons. Your presence would be a meaningful part of this remembrance. Registration is requested for this event.
Jim was a lifelong athlete, surfer, wrestler, dedicated coach and proud Marine veteran. Besides his wife and family, James’ greatest source of enjoyment was working with his students and their endeavors in life, education and business. At Springfield College he was best known as the freshman and assistant wrestling coach and as the head coach tasked with re-launching the varsity lacrosse team.
A lifelong champion of women’s athletics and equal rights, Ginny blazed a trail and set precedence for equal rights for women in the workplace and on the fields and courts—winning many awards and accolades along the way. Aside from her husband and her family, Virginia’s greatest sources of enjoyment were the athletes and students she worked with throughout her storied career of educational service.

In memory of Ken Wall, G'73, DPE'75
Celebration of Life on Campus: A celebration of life will be held in the Harold C. Smith Presentation Room in Judd Gymnasia, 263 Alden Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, on September 11, 2025, at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Springfield College Museum.
Ken Wall, G'73, DPE'75, passed peacefully at home on Saturday afternoon, July 26, 2025, with his son and wife by his side and accompanied by the happy sounds of his granddaughter and sisters playing nearby. His kindness, enthusiasm, and mental tenacity will leave a lasting imprint on those whose paths he crossed.
Ken and his wife Sonja, G'76, called Springfield College home together for more than five decades. In 1983, Ken was named director of the Springfield College (SC) International Center. In that role, he welcomed international students to the campus and encouraged SC students to study abroad. In 1986 the college granted him a leave to serve as a Fulbright Scholar at the Pedagogical University in Sucre, Bolivia. Following his 21-year tenure directing the SC International Center, he transitioned to the Department of Sport Management and Recreation, where he completed his final 15 years of service to the College. During a 2016 sabbatical leave, he visited more than 60 SC alumni in five nations and proudly reported that they were "making the world a better place, one friendship at a time." He was awarded the Springfield College Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011 and the Springfield College Cheney Award for Service in 2018. After an exceptional career inspiring countless students and promoting international goodwill, he retired in 2019. Read Full Obituary...
