Springfield College Welcomed Back to Campus Eyewitnesses to Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" Speech

Springfield College celebrated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech with a special panel discussion on Monday, March 31, in the Cleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room in the Campus Union.  The event was part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s commencement speech at Springfield College. 

As part of the celebration, panelists included Springfield College alumni Daniel Smith ’60, Barry Brooks ’64, and former Springfield College Chaplain Bob Parsonage, as they returned to campus to talk about their experiences witnessing one of the most significant events in American history.

Moderated by Springfield College Professor of Communications Martin Dobrow, the panelists reflected on that historic day on the National Mall when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech and recapped the impact it had in the United States in striving for racial equality.
