There are a variety of reasons a student may benefit from a referral for a higher level of care or outpatient services.  Some of these examples of presenting concerns that may benefit from more specialized care include:

  • Long-term or weekly  counseling appointments
  • Psychiatry services for medication management
  • Specialty focused therapy such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Intensive substance abuse treatment
  • Intensive outpatient treatment
  • Counseling outside of traditional business hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM)
  • Teletherapy (i.e., therapy by telephone, Skype, etc.)
  • Assessments for learning disabilities and/or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Assessment and documentation for emotional support animals
  • Court-ordered or mandated treatment

The Counseling Center staff is available to assist with referrals to any of the above resources if you are seeking more specialized care.  Please reach out to the Counseling Center at (413) 748-3345 if you would like assistance accessing an off-campus provider or resource.
