Physical Therapy and Community Mobility Clinic | Springfield

Physical Therapy and Community Mobility Clinic

The Springfield College Community Mobility Clinic strives to be a resource for both the students/faculty of the School of Health Sciences as well as our neighbors within the Springfield, Mass., community. Our mission is to enhance community health and
advance the education of future health professionals through collaborative clinical and educational experiences. Current programming offers creative, evidence-informed physical therapy
and occupational therapy services as well as annual fall prevention screenings. These experiential learning opportunities provide meaningful engagement between students and community members. By integrating academic excellence with community service, we aim to empower both students and participants who achieve improved
health, independence, and quality of life.

Clinical Services

CMC serves local community members who are managing long-term mobility issues. Members participate in free twice-weekly sessions to improve strength, mobility, and physical function. Services are offered over a 12-week period from Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students, supervised by licensed clinical faculty.

Participants currently include people who are living with multiple sclerosis, osteoarthritis, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, stroke, and spinal cord injuries. No diagnoses are excluded from participation. An intake screening process is in place to assess eligibility.

Participants receive annual evaluation and biannual revaluation. Twenty weeks of treatment sessions and treatment two times a week.

Participants are able to use the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus system through coordinated and designated drop-off and pick-up points. Students are available to assist with mobility in and out of the building as needed.

Fall Prevention Clinic 2024
Fall Prevention Program

Take control of your health and confidence! A quick falls risk screening could be your first step toward preventing injuries and staying independent.

Annually, Springfield College PT and OT students collaborate to provide a free fall prevention screening. All community members are welcome. Each participant will undergo testing through which students will assess an individual’s risk for falls. Participants will leave with personalized recommendations to lower their risk for falls. The session will last approximately 90 minutes.

Statement of Support

All services are offered on a pro bono basis. Donations are gratefully accepted and are used to support ongoing CMC offerings.

Partnerships

We partner with PVTA to provide transportation for eligible individuals.
