Empowering Skill Development

Our students serve as leaders on campus, in the community, and in the classroom. Leadership is part of the Springfield College experience and allows students to prepare for leadership roles in life after Alden Street.

Leadership Summit

Leadership Summit is a weekend-long leadership development retreat held at Silver Bay YMCA in Lake George, New York  through the Office of YMCA Relations for the past nineteen years. This program is unlike others on campus in that its participants do not apply to attend. Participants are nominated by a peer, coach, faculty member or staff member on campus who saw leadership qualities & potential in them. Leadership Summit will allow students to have the opportunity to foster their leadership skills through workshops, reflection, and discussions so that they can create positive change in their life and others.

New Student Orientation (NSO) Leaders

At Springfield College, we are all about developing our students as leaders. One of the ways we do that is to engage a group of students each academic year to take part in preparing new students to transition into college life—from the academic, to residential living, to social lives. At the beginning of each semester, NSO leaders create activities and develop events to get students excited about their new home on campus.

Student Ambassadors

First impressions mean a lot, especially when we host prospective students and their families and other visitors to campus. To ensure a great experience, we rely on our Student Ambassadors to educate and guide these visitors. Operated through Undergraduate Admissions, the ambassadors are student volunteers who provide tours of campus through which visitors learn about our history, highlights of our buildings and facilities, and what it means to be a student on campus.

Pre-Camp Leaders

New students to Springfield College have the opportunity to attend Pre-Camp, a student-run program that helps first-year students transition into the college experience. Serving as Pre-Camp leaders, current students can share their experiences and work with the new students to connect them with their peers, become familiar with the College, and gain confidence.

Cultural Connections Student Leader

Cultural Connections Student Leaders serve as mentors for first-year students and play a vital role in their integration into campus culture. Cultural Connections is a pre-orientation leadership program for students from diverse populations that focuses on unity, social justice, and community.

Resident Assistants

As a student, your experience living on campus is as important as your academic experience. So, making sure students experience a safe and comfortable living environment is paramount. Students have the chance to engage in one of the premier leadership opportunities on campus by serving as a resident assistant (RA). RAs serve as the first point of contact for those living in the residence halls. Among their many duties, RAs assist other students to find campus resources, host educational and social events, and documenting policy violations.

“The Campus Activities Board (CAB) creates fun, engaging, and worthwhile events that bring together the campus community. Whether it be Bingo, do-it-yourself crafts, trips to New York City, or live performers, we are always working to create opportunities for the student body to get involved on campus, either planning events or simply participating. CAB has allowed me to grow as a leader, learn event management skills, embrace my creativity, and create friendships that will last a lifetime.” Sarah McNicholas, ’25, G'26
"Leadership is something that can be taught but it’s also deeply rooted in your morals; the way you think about things and view the world. And I think Springfield really instills that in their students. No matter what group you’re a part of, every student at every facet of the College can become a leader." Moriah Billups '15
"The Leadership Training Conference (LTC) is an experience that completely blew my mind and changed my entire life. It’s about finding out who you are as a person to be able to lead others, to inspire others, and to be a better person.” Damian McKay Morgan '21
