A lot of exciting progress made since our last update. As the exterior of the building continues to take shape with site work and façade finishes, numerous first installations of fixtures and finishes have occurred within the building. Plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets in shared bathroom areas have been installed on the first and second floors. Throughout the second floor, the first installations of carpeting and resilient flooring are progressing as other activities are completed. Sitework has been remobilized as Consigli prepares to finish construction of the Portsmouth parking lot. The interior of the building has received its first installation of flooring and relevant protection in Rooms 101 and 102. The shared bathroom areas on floors 1 and 2 received first installations of wall tiling. All other activities remain ongoing with drywall and taping occurring on the fourth floor, interior painting following behind, and ceiling grid installation progressing onto the third floor. Electrical, plumbing, and related activities remain ongoing throughout the building.

Site work began during our last update and continues to make progress as Consigli relocated their field operations to accommodate this work. Activities include curbing, welding of EV chargers, and installation of transformer vault. Progress continues to be made inside the building as well, as most activities remain on-going. Projection screens installation has started on the second and third floors. Wall tile installation has progressed onto the third floor. Drywall and taping activities are nearly complete on the fourth floor, with drop down work beginning to take place. Painting has moved onto the fourth floor as they prime and apply the first coat of paint. Installation of ceiling grid follows behind painting activities. Floor patching, mitigation, and epoxy base installation have all began and will remain ongoing.

HSC Project Lot Closure Notice
May 18, 2022

Dear Springfield College Faculty, Staff, and Students,

As the new Health Sciences Center project moves forward, we will periodically share updates and information regarding the project and the impact on parking and access to campus. In addition to email updates of our progress, we will also share this information through our social media channels, signage in front of the building and on neighboring streets, and the Health Sciences Center webpage. With the project slated for completion in fall of 2023, there will be a number of opportunities to celebrate milestones toward construction and opening; but between now and then, there will be necessary disruptions to our current traffic and pedestrian patterns.

On May 18th, site expansion will begin. During this phase of the project:

  • The perimeter fence will be extended to enclose the expanding work area. This is a necessary step to assure safety.
  • Sheffield St. will continue to be closed from Alden St. to Portsmouth St. The contractor will maintain the posted signage that will alert local traffic.
  • Commuter Parking Lot #9 will be closed. Those who currently park in Lot #9 will be asked to park in Lot #2 or Lot #15.
  • The Public Safety building will remain open but Portsmouth St. will be closed. All traffic to the Public Safety building will be routed along Shillingford St. The entrance to the Public Safety parking lot is relocated to Shillingford St.
  • Pedestrian access to and from Public Safety will be routed on Sheffield St. A temporary walkway will be added to connect Lot 4 to the south parking area of Facilities building and Sheffield St. See pedestrian routes on plan below.
  • The north entrance to the Facilities building will be closed. Please access the Facilities building and the Dance Studio from the south entrance.
  • The north end of Lot 4 will be closed. The south end of Lot 4 will remain open and available for Faculty and Staff parking.

We are doing everything we can to ensure smooth transitions as we progress through the various phases of this project. Thank you for your patience as we construct the future of Springfield College.

Sincerely,

Kevin Roy
