Graduate Associate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Primary Responsibilities:

Cultural Connections(CC) - With the guidance of the Program Coordinator

  • Assist the program coordinator in creating applications for, interviewing, and selecting 4 CCLP peer mentors during the Spring semesters
  • Help execute the training/onboarding process for CC board members each spring
  • Assist in planning and supporting the CC pre-orientation program for Summer leading up to the Fall semester, e.g. generating schedule and training, staffing during the 3-day period
  • Assist in organizing a 6-week CC mentorship program that will support CC cohort members
  • Meet weekly/bi-weekly with CC mentors and program coordinator
  • Create and monitor feedback forms to improve CC programming, e.g. pre and post assessments
  • Collaborate with other campus partners to recruit and enhance the student experience, e.g. Student Activities, Career Center, etc.
  • Help to update and distribute CC-related marketing materials 
  • Serve as a liaison between the affinity groups and CC
  • Connect students with resources that can make their cultural, social, and educational experiences better
  • Help students to individually and collectively explore topics of identity, leadership, and social justice
  • Meet with CC Mentors to provide them with mentoring training and feedback regularly throughout the 6-week mentoring program.
  • Take on 1 on 1 meetings with mentees who may be exhibiting transitional adjustments
  • Collaborate with program coordinator to create 6-week mentoring program

DEI - With the guidance of the Director/ Direct Supervisor

  • Attend senior staff meetings (and program-specific meetings as needed) 
  • Maintain the DEI social media accounts
  • Help to educate students about the Office of DEI, our services, and broad DEI topics E.g., Open houses, class visits, RA events/ workshops, etc. This does not include educating staff or faculty on DEI topics. When it comes to workshops and training for staff and faculty, the director is the “subject matter expert” and educator. Appropriate tasks for GAs when it comes to faculty/ staff training would include looking over/proofreading existing materials, generating and reviewing feedback forms, and creating flyers for the workshops/ trainings if necessary
  • Make meaningful connections with students who engage in the suite space, and connect them to necessary resources when needed
  • Represent the Office of DEI on relevant committees E.g., Student Handbook Committee, Fresh Check Day, etc.
  • Plan, promote, and host small-scale programs focused on making connections with students and the Office of DEI (approximately 1 per month) E.g., “Pop in for Popcorn”
  • These are distinct from major institutional programming like Women’s Tea, Heritage Months, Stoling Ceremony, etc.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of student employee for the academic year
  • Collaborate with these students throughout the year as colleagues; full-time DEI staff is responsible for their supervision, task assignments, and evaluation
  • Assist with institutional programming (e.g., Women’s Tea, SEAT at the Table, Heritage Months, Stoling Ceremony, etc.)
  • When assistance from GAs is needed for these events, appropriate tasks include creating flyers, brainstorming and researching ideas as part of a larger group, putting the event’s information in monthly emails to students and on social media, creating and monitoring feedback forms, and volunteering the day of the event (e.g., setting up, serving food, passing out feedback forms, cleaning up)

GAs are not responsible for planning or leading these events (e.g., no expectation of speaking roles, supervising volunteers, making final decisions, reaching out to speakers/ generating contracts, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Candidates must be matriculated into a graduate program at Springfield College. 
  • Candidates must be able to work in a macro-managed and fast-paced environment, adapt to changes, and work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Candidates of all backgrounds with a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion and a strong background in group facilitation, and facilitation training.
  • Candidates must be available for evening programs and occasional weekend commitments.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and must obtain driver safety certification through Springfield College.
