The Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund | Springfield College

The Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund Criteria: One or two scholarships not to exceed $1,000.00 will be awarded to current Springfield College full-time students in the beginning of the spring semester. The applicant(s) should provide evidence of financial need. It should be noted that preference will be given to students who have contributed to the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and/or contributed to a culture of inclusive excellence around issues of diversity and inclusion at Springfield College.

The Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund was established with a generous $25,000 from Liberty Mutual in recognition of Heard’s service on their Board of Directors.  The fund supports African-American student(s) who have a demonstrated need for emergency support.  Preference will be given to undergraduate students with secondary preference to graduate students. The goal of the Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund is to help students remain in school.

The Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund will not be awarded to cover: (1) Previous college debt, (2) To pay for legal representation in a criminal proceeding or Springfield College disciplinary proceeding.

Size and number of awards will depend on income available from earnings of the Marian L. Heard Emergency Support Fund. The award committee will set the policy for awards and select each recipient.
