Springfield College is proud to unveil its Bachelor of Science degree in Data Science to meet the growing demand for technical expertise and an analytical mindset in our increasingly tech-driven world.
The goal of Springfield College’s undergraduate Data Science program is to prepare students with both the technical depth and practical experience necessary for diverse and rapidly growing career opportunities in data science and analytics. Students will work with cutting-edge advancements in generative AI and gain mastery of coding, mathematical and statistical modeling, algorithmic thinking, and more.
“The creation of an interdisciplinary data science major here at Springfield College leverages our strengths in mathematics, computer science, business, design, and more, to equip students to be problem-solving leaders in a complex world,” said Rachel Rubinstein, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. “Students will additionally have the opportunity to pair their studies in Data Science with our nationally recognized programs in health studies and sport science.”
James O’Brien, chair of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, added, “In today’s world, innovative leadership requires a command of data science skills and analytical thinking. Our new Data Science program will deliver a practical, real-world, skills-based, hands-on experience where students will build an in-demand portfolio containing analytical, mathematical and data manipulation skills.”
The need for a Data Science program is on the rise. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of data scientists is projected to grow 34% from now to 2034.
