Turn Data Into Insight

Springfield College equips students with the technical expertise and analytical mindset needed to thrive in today’s data-driven world. The Data Science major blends theory with hands-on practice, preparing students to transform complex information into meaningful insights. Students explore topics such as statistical modeling, machine learning, data mining, sports analytics, and quantitative modeling. They’ll also engage with cutting-edge advancements in generative AI, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and AI-driven automation. Through project-based learning in essential programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and C++, students gain mastery of coding, mathematical and statistical modeling, and algorithmic thinking.

The program culminates with a real-world capstone project that builds a marketable portfolio, demonstrating critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication through data interpretation and visualization. The goals of Springfield College’s undergraduate Data Science program are to prepare students with both technical depth and practical experience necessary for diverse and rapidly growing career opportunities in data science and analytics.

Simulating Galaxies, Shaping Futures

Prashant Timalsina '24 and James G. O'Brien, PhD, participated in the Bi-Annual International Association of Relativistic Dynamics (IARD) Conference in June 2026 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. O'Brien, professor and chair of the Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, presented his research on large-scale simulations of galaxies, featuring code and simulations written by Springfield College Computer and Information Sciences students. While at the conference, O'Brien reconnected with Timalsina, a graduate student at Howard University in the Department of Engineering and Computer Science. Prashant is also a co-founder of a brand new start-up sports management company, DUPSUM LLC, as well as co-founder of Kuber Assets property management systems.
