Academic Success
Tutoring
Tutoring provides collaborative, course-specific support designed to address learning gaps and deepen understanding of course material. Peer tutors are trained and certified by the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).
Individual and Group Tutoring
Students may schedule one-on-one or small group tutoring appointments for a variety of science and math courses, such as Bioscience, Chemistry, Statistics, and Math. Tutoring in other content areas is also available by request. As an alternative, drop-in tutoring for select science courses is also offered, providing flexible support for quick questions or test preparation.
Writing @ Springfield College offers students the opportunity to meet in-person or online with a Peer Writing Tutor or a Faculty Writing Specialist who can assist with short papers, lengthy essays, research papers, reviews of literature, or other written assignments. Writing @ Springfield College is a collaboration between Advising and Student Success and the Department of Literature, Writing, and Journalism.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is peer-led group review for historically challenging courses in the Department of Biology/Chemistry. SI Leaders attend class lectures and facilitate weekly out-of-class group study sessions that integrate "what to learn" with "how to learn."
"During the SI Session, I was exposed to different forms of studying, and hearing the content for the second time was really helpful!"

Academic Coaching
Academic coaching is for students who want to strengthen their skills and develop habits that will lead to sustained academic success. Coaching is highly interactive and collaborative and with a focus on helping students build their academic confidence.
Individual Coaching
Students may meet with an individual academic coach weekly, biweeky, or on an as-needed basis. Coaches provide guidance with essential skills, such as creating a weekly routine, prioritizing tasks, understanding course expectations, and preparing for quizzes and tests. Coaches can also assist with the navigation of class technology and will connect students with other campus resources to ensure wraparound support.
Power Up Workshops
Power Up workshops are interactive presentations based on the overarching principle of "study smarter, not harder." In a group setting, students will learn practical and evidence-based strategies to become more thoughtful and efficient learners. Some topics include: Time Management, Active Studying, Interpersonal Communication, Presentation Skills, and Library Research.
Academic Progress Program
Students on academic probation are required to actively participate in the College’s Academic Progress Program. Students will be assigned an academic coach who will ensure they understand what is necessary for them to return to good standing, assist in monitoring their progress, and support them as they develop strategies for success.
