Art and Design Learning Outcomes

Goal 1 : Demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of art and design.

  • SLO 1 : Students will develop expressive fluency in the fundamentals of art and design, using them to explore themes of aesthetic, technical and conceptual complexity.
  • SLO 2 : Students will be able to employ the elements and principles of art and design to develop a visual language and use that language for creative expression.

Goal 2 : Demonstrate visual, practical and technical skills in a variety of visual arts and design media.

  • SLO 3 : Students will develop increasing competency in a variety of art and design mediums and technologies. 
  • SLO 4 : Students will demonstrate an understanding of the expressive qualities of each medium, making thoughtful connections between medium and content.

Goal 3 : Demonstrate critical, creative, and innovative thinking and problem-solving skills in their respective artistic disciplines.

  • SLO 5 : Students will demonstrate an ability for divergent and flexible thinking and cultivate intellectual and creative curiosity in their work.
  • SLO 6 : Students will employ experimentation and risk taking with medium, technique and content.  

Goal 4 : Develop an understanding of traditional and current practice in visual art, design and culture.

  • SLO 7 : Students will develop an awareness of the diversity of expression in art and design and the importance of this diversity in local and global cultures. 
  • SLO 8 : Students will develop an understanding of the role that visual culture plays in culture, history, and society. 
  • SLO 9 : Students will exhibit an understanding of craftsmanship and standards of professional practices.
